Troubleshooting
Fixes for the most common recording, audio, and permission issues.
Most issues come down to a macOS permission or an audio-routing setting. Here are the quick fixes.
The recording has no sound
Eavesy captures the audio your Mac is playing, so:
- Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording and make sure Eavesy is allowed.
- Confirm your call’s audio is routed to the output device you can hear from — if it’s going to a muted or different device, it won’t be captured.
- Watch the live transcript — if no words appear as people talk, audio isn’t reaching Eavesy.
My voice isn’t captured
Allow Microphone access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, then start a fresh recording.
macOS only applies a newly granted permission to new recordings. If you granted access mid-session, stop and start again.
The app won’t open on first launch
Because Eavesy is distributed outside the App Store, Gatekeeper may block the first launch. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway. See Installing the Mac app.
The live transcript is lagging or empty
- Check your internet connection — live transcription needs a network round trip.
- Very quiet input can stall the transcript; move closer to the mic or raise the other side’s volume.
The browser recorder stopped at 30 minutes
That’s the limit for browser sessions. For unlimited length, screen, and system audio, use the Mac app.
